Salve Regina - Tonus simplex
Marian antiphonSalve Regina is probably the most famous Marian antiphon of the Roman liturgical tradition.
The antiphon is traditionally assigned to the period from First Vespers of Trinity Sunday until the Saturday before the First Sunday of Advent, corresponding to the season of Ordinary Time. It is traditionally sung at the conclusion of Compline and of the Holy Rosary.
The Tonus Simplex (Simple Tone) is the simpler of the traditional Gregorian melodies for Salve Regina. Compared with the more elaborate Tonus Solemnis (Solemn Tone), it uses a more restrained melodic setting and is intended for use on ordinary days rather than more solemn occasions.
